Donal Lunny was born August 10, 1947 and is one of the best known names in the revival of Irish folk music in general, and of the Irish bouzouki in particular. His roots in Irish music go back to the 60’s with popular Irish music, and he has played with Irish music legend Christy Moore on one of Christy Moore’s albums. He then later joined Christy Moore in forming the band “Planxty” which became one of the most famous and groundbreaking groups in Irish music during the 1970’s. In 1974 Lunny left Planxty to form “The Bothy Band” where he can be heard on guitar and on the bouzouki. In the new century Lunny has played some one-off gigs with some of his old bandmates and has also been a producer. |
