The tin whistle is a medium sized whistle ranging 2 octaves. It is a simple woodwind instrument that has six holes and is blown from the end as you can see in the above photo. Another name for it is the 'pennywhistle' which got its name from being a low cost instrument among people on the streets to be able to get and learn and use. They were popularized in the late 1800's. They come in different keys and are identified by their lowest note. Their low price makes them very popular still. Depending on price whistles can be found that are tunable and also non-tunable. |
